Supporting Young Mothers: Our Recent Visit with Rose

During a recent home visit, our team met Rose, a 19-year-old mother of three who is courageously raising her children while also caring for her elderly mother. With support from EMF, Rose now maintains a small kitchen garden that provides food for her family and income from selling surplus vegetables. Despite the challenges she has faced, her life is gradually improving, and she continues to build a more hopeful future for her family.

During a recent home visit, our team spent time with Rose, a teenage mother whose strength and perseverance deeply moved us. At just 19 years old, Rose is raising three children on her own. The fathers are no longer involved in their lives, leaving her as the sole provider for her young family.

With the support of EMF, Rose was able to establish a small kitchen garden where she grows vegetables such as dodo and tomatoes. During harvest seasons, this garden provides essential food for her children, and any surplus is taken to the local market to earn a small income. This initiative has begun to bring positive, gradual change to her daily life.

Rose is also the only surviving child of her mother, who lost all her other children during the Genocide against the Tutsi. Today, Rose carries the responsibility of caring for her three children as well as her elderly mother, forming a family of four.

Despite the many challenges she faces, Rose’s life is slowly improving. With continued encouragement and support, she is creating a more stable and hopeful future for her family.
