About

Edward Musonera Foundation (EMF) was born from my journey of overcoming hardship, abuse, and teen motherhood. I know first-hand what it means to feel voiceless and vulnerable. This journey is not unique to me, but shared by many children, youth, and teen mothers in Rwanda.

Today, more than 1,000 children live on Rwanda’s streets—63.6% aged between 14 and 18—exposed to exploitation and neglect. While free education is available, 86.8% do not take advantage of this opportunity due to challenges like family instability, substance abuse, and rebellion. Many end up in survival crimes, leading to entry into Rwanda’s juvenile justice system.

These young people are not statistics—they are individuals with dreams and God-given potential. EMF exists to restore their dignity, hope, and purpose. Through faith, education, and community empowerment, we are breaking cycles of poverty and nurturing a generation of resilient, purpose-driven leaders.

This is not just our mission. It’s our calling.

Edward Musonera Foundation is a faith-based, women-led, and youth-initiated organization established in Rwanda in 2022. It is registered with the Rwanda Governance Board under legal personality No. 81/RGB/FDN/LP/02/2025. EMF advocates for girls’ and women’s rights, socio-economic empowerment, and education.

I am 33 years old, a dedicated and experienced secondary teacher with a proven track record of successful engagement in International School environments in Rwanda and Burundi. For Twelve years I am adept at fostering a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere.

I have had an opportunity to work with a humanitarian organization known as Prison Fellowship Rwanda as a legal officer for a good period of time. This is a local NGO in Rwanda that partners with UNHCR on legal advocacy and community-based protection for the refugee individuals. I served as the president of the guild council at PGD level at Africa College of Theology from September 2022- March 2024.

I hold a bachelor Degree with Honors in Law, a Post Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Theology, and a Cambridge Professional Certificate in teaching English and Literature AS and A ‘levels.

Additionally, I hold a certificate of honors in peer education and training which I received after attending a six months training from TASO Mulago hospital Organization Kampala-Uganda. This explains my qualifications and skills in counseling troubled children especially those affected and infected with HIV/AIDS.

As a qualified candidate with extensive knowledge in curriculum review, I have actively participated in the transition from an information-based learning curriculum to a competence-based learning curriculum at Africa College of Theology. My experience includes serving as the president of the council at Africa College of Theology from August 2022 to March 2024, during which I played a pivotal role in overseeing and implementing curriculum changes to enhance the educational framework and outcomes for students.

I am a candidate at University of Rwanda-School of Law, Department of Law, where am pursuing a Master’s Degree in Business Law.

Currently, I am employed by British English Language Institute, Kigali- Rwanda Campus, where I work as a professional Instructor for General English Courses, Professional Courses for Lawyers, Logistics and Supply Chain Management Teams, and Personal Assistants.
